Study 13 of 13 on The Teachings of Jesus
“Funny thing about the Second Coming…we look for signs, and point to things happening around us as….SIGNS! But in looking for signs, we take our eyes off the God who protects us while all of these signs are happening. I mean look at it…there are preachers who make their money off scaring people into believing. But the Second Coming isn’t about fear…we shouldn’t be scared they are coming to get us…we need to live in the joy of the reunion. Remember the stories of the reformers…of Stephen…they were singing because the joy in their faith was stronger than the fear of the signs. We believe this…that our Lord and Saviour will return to gather all of us back where we belong. There isn’t fear in that simple teaching…there is only joy for this journey home.”–Falvo Fowler
Scriptural Basis: Matt. 16:27; 24:3–14; 24:42, 44; John 14:1–3; 1 Thess. 4:13–18. Key Text: “ ‘Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also’ ” (John 14:1–3, NKJV).
1. Why should Christ’s promises in John 14:1–3 mean so much to us? 2. According to Scripture, what will the Second Coming of Jesus be like? 3. How does the purpose of Christ’s return enhance our appreciation of God’s love for humanity? 4. How are we to understand the “imminence” of Christ’s second coming? 5. What about this idea that we, as a people, can either help hasten or delay the Second Coming? 6. What role might Christian fellowship have in contributing to spiritual preparation?
